General Ledger Postings

Transactions generated in MDS automatically update the General Ledger as soon as they are entered and finalised. This posting of summary and transaction data from MDS to the General Ledger is done via the GL interface records (for more information, refer to "GL Interface Records (Integration Tables)").

A copy of the transactions is also held in an intermediate file, known as the "external file", which provides an audit trail for reporting purposes. This data can be posted to the General Ledger at the end of each trading day (End of Day - EOD), or at the end of the period (normally the End of Month - EOM).

Data can be summarised or not summarised. The way MDS performs these tasks depends very much on how you have your system setup but generally can be explained as follows:
